The desire for more has most times triggered man's inventiveness, and he gets to look for a way to satisfy that need. And talking about satisfying needs, in no mean measure has technology proved to be the most effective. Today, we look at the world of computer technology- virtual reality to be precise. Virtual reality revolves around the use of a special type of headsets to create realistic images and sensations that brings a user (of such technology) into the virtual world- one could simply posit that virtual reality makes it possible for the real world and the virtual space to converge in a spot. In technical parlance, this is referred to as 'immersive virtual reality'.

Virtual reality has been utilized to a very great extent in the gaming industry, and as such, it is quite popular among gamers. However, its use is not limited to gaming alone; it has also been employed in some other areas like:

Healthcare: Virtual reality is now used in treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorders and some other anxiety disorders. This feat is made possible when Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy (VRET) is combined with some other forms of behavioural therapy. Also, virtual reality has been found useful in pain management.

Entertainment: Certain movies are produced with virtual reality cameras in order to give viewer the opportunity to view such movie with a virtual reality headset. This creates a holistic experience as the movie could be watched in 360°. This engages the viewer more- just like a 'soaking up'.

Social Science: The use of a virtual reality headset by a social scientists [in a research study] can present him with the privilege of bringing another perspective into a research study. This could probably help him realize a far-reaching result at the end.

Arts: The artist's delight is bringing some realness into his (art) work, and to this effective, virtual reality has been highly recommendable and useful. With this (virtual reality) trend, 3D images and/or artworks can be produced without any trouble.

Virtual reality has also been of great advantage in many other sectors: from architecture to military, archeology, engineering and even marketing. From the foregoing, one would have realized that the employability of this technology is indeed vast.
